Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been taking co codamol for severe leg and back pain (30/500) 3 days ago I changed to take (8/500) so I can try and stop taking them all together and find a natural remedie. How long does it take for co codamol to leave your system completely?
If you can manage taking less or no pain killers that would be good.
Co codamol consists of codeine and paracetamol. The half life of co codamol is 2.9 hours. The half life of a medication is the time it takes for the amount of drug in the body to decrease by half. It takes 3 to 5 half lives for medication to be mostly eliminated.
With some medications however, there is a risk of addiction and tolerance. This can occur with codeine.
This means that it may take longer to get over the codeine.
In general, it would be expected that you should be able to get over the medication within a few days.
I hope this helps
