How Long Does Cryptococcosis Infection Take To Cure?

I had a kidney transplant Nov. 3, 2014. Last year i got Cryptococcosis . It never got to my brain ,i was put in the hospital for 7 days. It did get in my lungs. Ever since then i have had trouble walking and my legs hurt all the time .I was on Fluconazole 200 mg. for6 months .Istopped taking it because i was getting to where i couldnt walk at all. The hospital ,Barns in St. Louis Mo., put me using a walker. How long does this disease stay in your system? Does it ever leave,or does it stay in your system for ever? I am in pain bad pain all the time no one will give me any pain meds .I had a bottle for a year or so i still have a few left i only take them when i cant atand the pain any longer maybe once a week but they dont help much i think its because they are old . They gave them to me after the transplant . It is genaric Deloted dont no if i spelt it right i cant take anything else because of allergys that is the only one that im not allergict to.I am 72 years old . oh i also got bit by a tick same year and got both rocky mountain spooted fever, and Lyme disease. My kidney funtion tests are fine . I also take the antirejection med Tacrolimus 1 mg. two in morning and two at bedtime twelve hrs. apart. The doctor had to up it from .5 once a day after i went off of the other meds i was taking for the infection. It wasn t showing up at all in my blood test.

Hello,

People who have C. Neoformans infection need to take prescription antifungal medication for at least 6 months, often longer.

The type of treatment usually depends on the severity of the infection and the parts of the body that are affected.

For people who have asymptomatic infections (e.g., diagnosed via targeted screening) or mild-to-moderate pulmonary infections, the treatment is usually fluconazole.

For people who have severe lung infections or infections in the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord), the recommended initial treatment is amphotericin B in combination with flucytosine.

After that, patients usually need to take fluconazole for an extended time to clear the infection.

The type, dose, and duration of antifungal treatment may differ for certain groups of people, such as pregnant women, children, and people in resource-limited settings.

Some people may also need surgery to remove fungal growths (cryptococcomas).

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
