How Long Does Depo Shot Take To Show Effect?

Hello! Had my 1st shot of depo trust today. My 1st day of menstruation was last thursday (july 24) My husband will be arriving on friday ,august 1 . Do we need to use other contraceptives to prevent pregnancy or does the depotrust take effect immediately. Thank you!
