How Long Does HPV Virus Survive Outside The Human Body?

Hi, I m probably just being paranoid, but I have a question about HPV. My friend was diagnosed with oral hpv alittle while back, and spit on my hand today while talking. How long could the germs have survived on my skin? Is it possible that the disease could have been transmitted through a break in my skin or something? How much of the virus is needed to be transmitted?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Even very little amount of virus is sufficient to transmit any infection.Virus cannot survive in the environment for a long time.If the time between exposure and transmission is less, then there are chances that you may get infected with the virus. If you are hale and healthy chances are very less that you may show the infection. At present there is no need for you to worry. If you show any signs of infection,it can be treated with the help of medications.
Hope my advise was helpful to you.
Do not hesitate to ask any future concerns.
