How Long Does Lisinopril Take To Reduce Blood Pressure?

Hi, Just started taking (4 days ago) 10mg Lisinopril (once a day), and was wondering how long I should expect before I start to see the lowering of my blood pressure. When I was given Lisinopril the first time in the doctor s office, my pressure was 185/120. It seems to be coming down, but VERY slowly. How long should I give the medicine to work before I get concerned again? Thank you!

Hi,

Lisinopril is an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor that is commonly used to treat high blood pressure. The time it takes for Lisinopril to lower blood pressure can vary from person to person, but in general, it can take a few weeks for the medication to reach its full effect.

It is important to note that Lisinopril is not a medication that works immediately, and it may take several days or even weeks before you see a significant decrease in blood pressure. Some people may even experience a temporary increase in blood pressure before it begins to lower.

If you have been taking Lisinopril for four days and have not seen a significant decrease in blood pressure, you should not be concerned yet. It is important to continue taking the medication as prescribed and follow up with your doctor regularly to monitor your blood pressure and adjust your dosage if necessary.

If you experience any concerning symptoms, such as chest pain, difficulty breathing or swelling in your face or throat, you should seek medical attention immediately, as these may be signs of an allergic reaction or a more serious side effect of the medication.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Hi,

With hypotensive drug, blood pressure comes to normal level by max 8-10 days. If it does not, you need re-consultation for change of dose or change of medicine.
