How Long Does Oxycontin Take To Relieve Back Pain?

I am taking 30 mg. OxyContin extended release tablets and take 2 a day - one in the morning and another 12 hours later as prescribed. Long story short -- I had my back restructured in major surgery, etc. etc. my question is how quickly do these pills work, and how long will the pain relief last?? I also take 10 mg. short acting oxycodone. Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

OxyContin is composed of 'Oxycodone' is an opioid medication which is used for the relief of moderate to severe pain.

After a dose of conventional oral Oxycodone, the onset of action is 10 to 30 minutes, and peak plasma levels of the drug are attained within roughly 30 to 60 minutes.

OxyContin starts to reduce pain within one hour. It provides pain relief for at least 12 hours after administration. Together, with short-acting Oxycodone should provide you with proper relief from pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
