How Long Does Plan-B Remain In The System For Urinalysis?

Is it possible for plan b to show up on a urinalysis using an advanced immunoassay machine for drug testing ? I ve read that it s just a hormone but my girlfriend and I had unprotected sex and she s on random drug testing and not supposed to take anything without it first being approved. By the way the machine used is in a lab not dipstick tests it has a name and then a number next to it like 2000 I think.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Thanks for posting in HCM.

I understand your concern.

Plan B contains 1.5 mg of hormone 'levonorgestrel'. It is a synthetic progestogen used for contraception.

As per the information available from various studies, metabolism and excretion of [14C]-levonorgestrel (radio-labelled) after a single 1.5-mg oral dose occurs as follows:
1. Conjugation (sulfates and glucuronides) was the primary metabolic reaction that takes place.
2. Major urinary metabolites seen include 3 alpha-hydroxy-tetrahydrolevonorgestrel, 2 alpha-hydroxylevonorgestrel, 13-ethyl-4-homogonane-3,17-dione, and their corresponding sulfate and glucuronide conjugates.
3. Minor hydroxylated metabolites found in urine include 3-β-hydroxy-, 3 alpha,16 alpha-dihydroxy-, and 3 alpha,16-β-dihydroxy-tetrahydrolevonorgestrels and 16-β-hydroxylevonorgestrel.

The half-life is 24 to 28 hours. Both the parent drug and its metabolites are primarily excreted in the urine. Approximately 45% is excreted in the urine and 32% in feces, mostly as glucuronide conjugates.

Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
