I have had adverse reactions to statins, and I was recommended by my Dr. to take Red Yeast Rice to help lower my cholesterol. I have had a inflamed nose, My eyes are puffy and I have a heaviness feeling. Not realizing RYR is also a statin I ve been on it for 1 week. I last took 2 capsules last night. How long does it take to rid your system?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

The puffy eyes, inflamed nose is seemingly related to over dose of statin most likely. The level of red yeast rice remains elevated for a period of 4-6 hours after its absorption from the small intestine and gradually tapers down as metabolised by liver P 450 enzyme pathway within next 24 hours.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
