How Long Does Deficiency Of Vitamin D Take To Get Treated?

I have low vitamin d (lab test was 20), and started taking 5000 daily about one month ago. I read today about some symptoms online and wanted to see if those are in fact true symptoms, and if so, how long it would take to get my levels up. My symptoms are fatigue, muscle and/or joint pain, rash and itching on my head, crabbiness and depression. I was dx d with osteoporosis after testing, and my doc checked my vitamin d level at that time. We stopped my Rx for fosamax after a month to see if the aches and pains were any better, and I am to resume the Rx in another week. I haven t noticed a big change in my symptoms since stopping the Rx. Thanks! Nan

Hi Nan,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I have read your description and understand your concern.
Vitamin D levels of 20 is quite low and what has been advised for you to take 5000 units daily is fine. It would generally take about 6 to 8 weeks for things to settle down to normal.
Kindly take the complete course of medications as advised. You can also expose yourself to sun as many times as possible in a day as it would aid in synthesis of Vitamin D naturally. Along with it you need to take Vitamin D rich foods in the diet so that the levels once established to normal could be maintained well.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best and wish you good health.
