I just found out that someone very close to me has been diagnosed positive of HIV 8 years ago. Last Friday she wrote a rather disturbing facebook staus about feeling that 2010 is going to be her last year. How long does it take for someone to develope aids

HIV does not spread through casual contact (I presume you were not in physical relationship )and 8 years is a long period. Moreover HIV can't be diagnosed by looking at only at symptoms. It can only be diagnosed by testing blood.
