How Long Does It Take To Heal Tonsillectomy?

I just had a tonsillectomy on the 28th of April. I am 17 years of age and I weigh about 118 pounds. This is the 5th day and I still cant seem to swallow anything, not even my pain killers. How long will it take for me to begin to feel better? And what can I possibly do to help the healing process?

Otolaryngologist / ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Pain and difficulty in swallowing following tonsillectomy is fairly common. General advice:

1. soft bland diet and liquids orally
2. avoid hot and spicy foods
3. gargle frequently with antiseptics
4. Try to chew foods as long as you can which will help reducing surgical inflammation in tonsillar bed.
5. Ice cube to chew/suck slowly

Next step visit your surgeon if this do not help you.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
