How Long Does It Take To Recover From A Meniscus Tear?

I have been told (after an MRI on Wednesday) In the Medial Compartment, I have a small radial tear involving the inner third of the medial meniscal body. Also, in the Lateral Compartment, a diffuse horizontal oblique tear is present in the anterior horn, body and posterior horn contacting the inferior surface middle third with a 1.0 cm parameniscal cyst abutting the meniscal body. I had a steroid shot on Wednesday of this weak and was told it would help with the pain. But yesterday and today it is very painful to walk. Should I have it scoped and sooner rather than later? Also, what is the recovery time i could expect after the surgery?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the extent of damage seems to be severe enough to produce significant symptoms on clinical grounds. It is the arthroscopic repair of torn meniscus and ligaments which gives excellent results over a period of time. So far as the time period of recovery is concerned, it is roughly 4-6 weeks duration on an average guidance. However, depending upon the host immune response and complexity of the procedure, this time may be more or less than this also.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
