How Long Does Labyrinthitis Take To Get Cured?

My husband hears a sound similar to water dripping, but only he can hear it. He has been unsteady on his feet, can t sleep. Has history of Hydrocephalus, had a 3rd ventriculostomy 15 years ago, no issues since. Spinal Dr. said may be Labrynthistis. How long will this last?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

If it is labrynthitis,it might take a while -- from a few weeks to months -- but most people recover completely from labyrinthitis. It’s possible to have another bout of vertigo later on.

This can happen if patient turns over in bed or even tilt head a certain way. Physical therapy can help it get better. Special exercises can help him regain his balance. A physical therapy program that focuses on this can speed up his recovery.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Prabhash Verma, General & Family Physician
