How Long Does Metoprolol Succinate Take To Reduce BP?

Hello, My Doctor prescribed me metoprolol succinate ER 50mg 1x daily. I took my first dose early today and my blood pressure is still high (158/104) & (150/101). Does this medicine take a few days for the full effect on lowering blood pressure? Thank you, Julie
