How Long Does Swelling And Pain Persist After Breaking Ankle?

I broke my ankle 10wks ago ( the fibural bone latteral Mellaleous) plaster off after 6wks., which was 4wks ago, still gets very swollen & painful so can't walk for very long & very slow as not easy up/down stairs so not attemping to drive yet & wonder how normal this is, as no follow up hospital appt./, or physio offered.
