How Long Does Syphilis Bacteria Take To Be Completely Out Of The System?

I previously tested positive for syphillis and received treatment (penicillin) about three years ago. I just had another test and the rpr was 1.128. Does this mean I currently have syphillis or is it a residual finding from my previous infection? How do I tell?

Hi
That is a residual of your previous infection and that result can be seen for many years after successful treatment.

The fluorescent treponemal antibody-absorption (FTA-ABS), microhemagglutination assay T pallidum (MHA-TP), T pallidum hemagglutination (TPHA), and T pallidum particle agglutination (TPPA) tests can be done to make sure you are not still infected with the syphilis bacteria
