How Long Does The Pain From A Humerus Fracture Last?

My daughter broke her left humerus just above her elbow 9 days ago. She had k wires inserted during surgery and has a backslab and dressing on. How long will she experience pain and how can we keep between the fingers on her left hand clean? The skin is constantly damp and becoming sore and peeling.
