How Long Does The Torn Meniscus Take To Heal?

The doctor thinks that I may have torn my miniscus. The xray and ultrasound indicate a joint effusion. I am still in a lot of pain. I don't know if I should try to walk on it. My knee fels unstable and not strong enough to support my body. I will be getting an MRI next week. How long will this take to heal? I am getting restless I guess.
