How Long Does This Burning Episode Last With A History Of Heart Disease And Shrinking Arteries ?

My mother is 81yr and has a bad history of heart disease. She just had an episode with burning. Across the chest the Dr told her that her arteries are scrinking is this the same as harhen of the arteries? How long can this last? The E-mail is YYYY@YYYY

Dear patient,

Thanks for the query. By the description, this is coronary artery disease or blockage of the arteries of the heart; women over the age of 75 are probably the highest risk group, with mortalities that can exceed 50% at 3 years if she has a heart attack; intensive medical management, regular exercise program and close follow up are indicated.
