How Long Does Turf Toe Surgery Take To Heal?

My son is a football player and was orginally dianosed with a monster case of turf toe from a football injury - singular event. It has been almost 4 weeks since the injury and while the swelling has gone down - the pain remains and it is localized to a very specific spot on on the bottom of his foot. The doctors are scheduling a bone scan ( he has undergone an MRI already) as they suspect he has broken his sesamoid bone.

I understand surgery is an option. How long will he be laid up and what is the typical rehab period?
