How Long Menstrual Cycle Take To Regularize Post Withdrawal From Contraceptive Shots?

I need help, I have been on Dep-V contraceptive shots for a year now, I had 3 shots. I have been off of it for approx. 3 months and went on Lolo BC pills for the 3 months. I have yet to get my period or spotting of any sorts. My husband I want a family and I am unsure what to do. I stopped taking the Lolo so I am not on anything anymore. Is it normal to not have your period for over a year?

Hi,

Dep-V contraceptive shot is female hormonal method of birth control. It contains a synthetic form of the hormone progesterone known as depo medroxyprogesterone acetate which is used in preventing pregnancy. One injection should be taken every 3 months to get the 3 months' protection against pregnancy. But, many women stop getting menstrual cycles after about 6-12 months of getting Dep-V injections. Nothing to be worried at all. It isn't a medical issue and it doesn't mean you won't get your normal menstrual cycle back again.

It means that the ovaries are resting and the lining of uterus doesn't grow. So, there is no menstrual bleeding. You will get your menstrual cycle back within 6-18 months after you stop taking the Dep-V injections. Again, Lolo BC pills contain both estrogen and progesterone which is used to regulate menstrual cycle. But it can take 2-3 months for your body to adjust to the hormones in a new birth control pill to regulate the menstrual cycles. So, menstrual cycle can be stopped during these periods. Most women should return to normal menstrual cycles after stop taking contraceptive pills within a month or two but it may take bit longer because the uterine lining requires time to thicken.

Take care. Hope I have answered your questions. Let me know if I can assist you further.
