How Long Should Dilantin And Phenobarbital Be Taken After Recovering From Epilepsy?

I have been taking the same medication for epilepsy since I was 16 years old and diagnosed with epilepsy after a car wreck where I was thrown from the car and landed on my head. I have been taking dilantin 100 mg 2 times daily, phenobarbitol 30 mg 2 times daily and Primadone 250 mg 2 times daily. I am 65 now should I change my medications. General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* As per my clinical experience, as there are no seizures for since long-time period, there is no need for 3 types of anti convulsion dosage at this stage.

* Usually in my clinic, I recommend to discontinue highly potential anti convulsant and prescribe low-level anticonvulsant therapy for maintenance of the seizure-free life ahead.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
