How Long Should I Take Avodart For An Enlarged Prostate?

Yes, thank you. My question is about the length of time one should conitue taking Avodart(dutasteride) dfor an enlarged Prostate. I started taking it about ten years ago and my urination problem himproved within na few months. I am now 92 years of age my only problem now is waking up 3 or 4 times a night to urinate. Should I discontinue use? I have no doctor to ask this question as my Urologigist retired several years ago.

I share your concerns as you are on medications for long. Tablet avodart, you are taking, is keeping your prostate in smaller size. Stopping of this tablet can be dangerous in your case as it may start enlarging again, which would be a very difficult situation. This tablet takes time to act in beginning, so once you leave it, it will be a big problem for you.

So as a doctor I would like to advise you to continue the tablet. And considering your age , it's better not to try stopping the medicine. Frequency of 3 to 4 times in a night will increase if you stop this tablet. So please take this tablet.
