How Long Should Neomycin Be Taken For Hepatic Encephalopathy?

My husband has been prescribed neomycin 4 X 1000mg, for hepatic encephalopathy, however he is not having an HE episode at the moment and is on 4 X 30ml of lactulose, the neomycin is causing him very bad diarrhoea and upset stomach. Can he stop taking it for now when he is not having an HE episode ??

He should take neomycin as it is for prophylactic and he should not wait for ischemic neuro episode.
