How Long Should Pantocid And Sparacid Be Continued Post Recovery From Ulcers?

I am 66 years old diabetic for last 18 years also diagnosed with CAD and CKD. Had multiple gastric peptic ulcers in March 2015. was prescribed with Pantocid DSR. After follow up of second endoscopy which showed ulcer was healing well I was additionally prescribed Sparacid. The third follow up endoscopy in july 2115 show that the ulcers have healed completely. For how long do I have to continue this treatment? Joseph B

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the sparacid requires presence of acid to act upon and hence it is strongly not recommended to consume with PPI as pantocid or others. As the ulcer is healed via endoscopic proof, there is only minor role of PPI or coating agents as sparacid to act upon. In my clinic, I do not recommend any PPI or sparacid after complete documented ulcer healing. However, lifestyle modifications and dietary precautions are to be followed without saying.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
