How Long Should Prazosin Be Taken To Manage Nightmares?

My son’s doctor prescribed prazosin for nightmares from ptsd. The dose began at 1mg and gradually increased to 15mg. My son hasn’t seen any difference in the nightmares. He doesn’t want to take it if it doesn’t help. Is there an optimal number of days that he should try it.

Prazocin is Alpha blocker drug. It is drug of choice for PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder). So better to continue with this drug only. Sometimes only medication is not sufficient. Patient needs to attend counseling sessions along with medicines. These counselling sessions are very useful in symptomatic improvement. So better to consult psychotherapist for counseling sessions. Try to identify stressor in his life and start working on its solution. Don't worry, he will be alright. Better to continue Prazocin.
