How Long Should An Air Cast Prescribed For A Foot Injury Be Worn?

My 10 yo son injured his foot playing soccer. Couldn t walk on it the next morning. Took him to the clinic where they took an X-ray -didn t see any fractures. Placed a temporary cast in his foot for one week-said that fractures in children sometimes don t appear for a couple of weeks. After one week he was given an air cast. Should he be wearing it the whole time?
