How Long Should Medication For PCOS Be Taken For Regularizing Periods?

Hi madam, I am 24 yrs old. I have got irregular periods from the beginning. At times has thought it would be that I am anaemic. Last year (jul 2015) went for ultrasound scan and PCOS for confirmed. Doctor prescribed Benforce m and Oosure tabs. I didn t start it since I was having my regular periods. But this year from feb I have not got my periods till this month. Pls suggest if I can start the course which was prescribed to me and till when this course has to be continued, when can the medication be stopped? Pls let me know the side effects of these tabs. Thank you mam.

Hello and welcome to Ask A Doctor services.
I have read your query and here is my advise.

* The previous doses can be consumed at this stage, but usually it is
best recommended to be started with concern of treating
gynecologist.

The usual pills of oral contraception are to be consumed for 21 days consistently without failure, within 4-5 days of period, you experience, withdrawal bleed in form of menses.

You have to continue low dose OC pills from 5 th day of menses till another cycle and the same has to be repeated for a period of 4-6 months depending upon the clinical evaluation, severity and supportive fact files presentation.

So far as ovulation inducing agents as clomiphene citrate or others are concerned, they are given only for 5 days from the 5th day of menses and again repeated during next cycle for 5 days.

However, every case requirement is unique and standerdized as per the need and diagnosis with clinical expertise.

Would like to address further if you can share your previous reports with me.

Thank you.
Regards.
