How Long Should Psychosis Patient Take Olanzapine Medicine?

I have been talking olanzipone 5 mg once daily for 3 months now. I had diagnosis of moderate psychosis since last 6 years on and off. Did not take any medication till now. I'm completely back to normal now.
My question is can I stop the drug now or tapper it. And if I have to continue then how long I have to stick to it ?

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

Olanzapine is a second generation anti-psychotic drug. The drug is a safe drug and is one of commonly used drugs for psychotic conditions. You have been suffering from some psychotic disorder since last 6 years and never been on regular treatment. Your symptoms are improved and since last 3 months you are on Olanzapine. As per guidelines treatment of psychotic episodes should continue for long periods of time. For first episode the duration of maintenance treatment is usually 6-12 months depending upon clinical situations. So even if you have no symptoms still I would advise you to continue with your drugs. Please visit your psychiatrist for proper advice.

Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care
