Hello,

The long stitch coming out is vicryl (absorb-able suture) most likely. Depending upon the type of material it can be:
- Rapid absorbing (as vicryl rapid), which comes out or gets absorbed within period of 10-15 days
- Delayed absorbing (as conventional vicryl), which takes a period of 4-6 weeks. I think, in your case, the possibility no. 2 is more likely.

But as there is redness and oozing discharge from the wound area, possible infection through some sort of bacteria (most likely staphylococcus aureus) must be considered as prime issue and the culture swab report of the discharge is primary need of time. There will be best recovery with local care with sterile dressing and systemic antibiotics as per the culture report of the wound discharge. Feel free to discuss further regarding the case as I am a consultant surgeon handling such cases on daily basis.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
