How Long To Continue Medication For Stroke And Memory Loss?

Sir, my father has a neurology problem, like stroke, memory lost, and he has been taking medicine for last 10 months and he wants to leave medicine but doctor insist that medicine will be taken at least for 3 years and may for whole life?? what should I do??
