How Long Will It Take For Gums To Close Up After Tooth Removal?

I had 3 teeth extracted late 2014 but each of the 3 teeth broke off and were left embedded in my gum protruding so they came into my dental plate. With tweezers I managed to pull out one small piece. There is a hole where one tooth was also part extracted but there is a ring of tooth surrounding that hole. Maybe infection can get down there? Will the dentist have to cut and stitch my gums to get the remains rigidly embedded teeth remnants out?

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain a remaining root piece has a high chances to get infected and once infected they can cause pain, swelling and discomfort.

As you said that for all the three teeth you have root pieces remaining you should consult an Oral Surgeon if your general dentist is unable to remove those remaining root pieces.

Many a times if the root pieces are visible in the tooth sockets a dentist can very well remove them using the elevators and forceps which are the instruments used to extract the teeth..

In case the root pieces are deeper and cannot be extracted using the regular extraction instruments the dentist cuts a little bit of the bone using a machine which can help in slowly drilling off so as to make access to the root pieces and then the root pieces can be very easily extracted.

After removal of the root pieces the dentist will place stitches over the gum flap so that the process of healing takes place easily and faster..

After a period of 7 days the dentist will recall you to remove the suture..
By this time considerable healing takes place and continues thereafter..

Along with either of these procedures antibiotics and painkillers are advised to the patient to prevent infection and relief from pain..

You should not make a delay and consult a dentist soon and get the root pieces extracted as till these root pieces are present chances of infection are persistent as well as the placement of removable or fixed artificial teeth is also not possible.

Hope your query is solved..

Thanks and regards..
