How Long Will The Swelling In Metacarpal Persist After Cast Removal?

I had a displacement of the 3rd metacarpal and decided not to have surgery; I was in a cast for 8 wks. Now that cast has been removed (2 days) my hand is still swollen which limits mobility. How long should I expect the swelling to persist and how aggressive should I be w/ therapy?
