How Long Will Thumb Soreness And Pain With Discomfort Take To Heal?

My 15 yr old son is 14 weeks post op for UCL repair surgery for gamekeepers thumb. he is an athlete who plays baseball. He is wearing a brace when hitting but is still having some soreness and pain intermittently when he swings the bat. Its not constant and pain is sometimes high but then goes away. Is this normal and how long will he continue to feel discomfort when swinging? That is the only time he feels any discomfort
