How Many YAG Laser Shots Are Required For Cataract Removal?

YES i had yag treatment for an eye after i had a cataract rremoved and when it was done was very surprised at the jelly that was put in my eye just before he did the lazer treatment. how many times does he have to shoot the eye before he can rest assured that he has done enough or can the procedure be overdone as well ? thank you

Hello,

The number of shots of Nd:YAG laser for PCO or after cataract would depend on the density of the opacification. For thin PCO, about 10-20 shots would suffice at a setting of 0.9mJ. But it might be more in intensity and number if the PCO is more dense( can set it at 1.5mJ also with 20-30 shots). It should not worry the patient as long as the vision improves after the procedure and there are no complications such as raised intraocular pressure or inflammation.
