How Many Drops Of Cortisporin Should Be Used For An Ear Infection?

I have had an ear infection in both ears and sore down my neck. Was put on Z pack and did not get much relief. My doctor has kind of pushed me to the side since they are overbooked and I ve been a patient of his for over 15 years. I have called for two days now and he just sent out Cortisporin drops tonight. One drop in each ear every 6 hours . He has not seen me in a week. Am I headed in the right direction or need to find another doctor. I have seen online that it should be 4 drops in ear three times daily. Any advice??? He is an Internist and was just going to send me to an ENT but they are booked for 5 months.

Hi,

Based on the history you have shared, it can be due to acute upper respiratory tract infection as the ear symptoms seem to be correlated with the throat ones.

Eustachian tube connects ear with throat from inside and can spread infection through it or get clogged due to inflammation.

Using antihistamines like Cetrizine or Loratidine along with OTC analgesics like acetaminophen or Ibuprofen can be helpful.

Meanwhile, you can increase the drops to two every six hours but don't use it for long term without getting a review clinically.

You may need antibiotics like ciprofloxacin or azithromycin but after getting examination by your primary care physician.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
