I am approx 5 week pregnant but am on Methotrexate for my psoriasis (10mg/week) and know I shouldn't keep it - can I do an 'aspiration abortion' and where can it be done? How safe is it? I just took a pregnancy test and had another one done in a family planning clinic - both positive - last period 27/09/11 (first day of last menses) According to me I conceived on 15th of Oct - what are my options? I am in a committed relationship - he would like to be able to keep it but I know the effects of methotrexate are very bad and wouldn't want to take any chance on having a abnormal child - this is my first pregnancy - never had an abortion before and I am 37 years of age.
Hi, thanks for writing.. I feel you can take a medical abortion after consulting with your doctor.. A scan need to be done prior to that. Aspiration abortion is an outpatient procewdure done within 7 weeks..It can be done in any hospital by a gynaecologist.. A mild sedation will be sufficient. if the pregnancy is to early it can miss the sac,, Excessive curretage can cause asherman's syndrome. Though rarely it can cause perforation. Hope I have answered your query.. Good day
