How Safe Is Taking Frain Post Abortion?

My wife had missed abortion in Dec'09 & June'10.She is expecting again with 7 weeks of pregenancy. We got ultrasound done last week.Dr. says everything is ok but she can see a choriodecidual separation of 15MMX7MM.She has adviced completed bed rest to my wife for 2 weeks and has put her on heavy Susten doses(injection+oral). Also,we got the checkup done after her second missed abortion pregenancy, she came out to be thrombophilic. To avoid that she is taking fragmin daily on Dr.Advice.There is no spotting or any kind of bleeding till date.I am bit nervous this time.Pls advice if this treatment is ok or she should take some more precautions.Have you seen success in these cases. What is the percentage.

Hi, Dr Purushottam Neurgaonkar here. I welcome you to HCM VIRTUAL CLINIC. I have gone through your question, and I think I have understood your concern. I will suggest you the best possible treatment options.

1 ) First of all do not panic. It is sad to hear about your previous miscarriage.

2 ) Chorionic decidual separation definitely needs bed rest , oral and or injectable progesterone treatment. I will suggest you to add Tab Celin 500 mg twice a day for ten days. Serial USG follow up 2 weekly to look for regression of blood collection is advisable.

3 ) As pregnancy itself is a condition of more coagulation status and as she has thrombofilia, it us important to continue with Fragmin. Per say it will not lead to or increase the retro chorionic bleeding. Fragmin is a safe low molecular weight heparin.

4 ) Please do continue with routine obstetric treatment of vitamin B 12 and Folic acid supplements as before.

I hope this answer helps you you.
Thanks.
