How Serious Are Bilateral Lung Nodules Causing Continuous Cough?
Hi, I had a CT chest scan in February because of my continuous caugh since November of last year. The scan found a few tiny non specific lung nodules bilateral. The largest on the right measured 4mm. The largest on the left in the lower lobe measures approximately 3mm in my lungs. I m beginning to worry about this and wonder how serious it is? The Dr. did not say it was cancer. Can you answer this and tell me what to do?
Hello dear, thanks for your question on HCM. I can understand your situation and problem. Bilateral lung nodules and chronic cough are seen in following diseases. 1. Tuberculosis 2. Chronic bacterial pneumonia 3. Sarcoidosis 4. Hypersensitive pneumonitis. 5. Malignant spread. So we need to rule out all these causes. Bronchoscopic evaluation with BAL (Bronchoalveolar lavage) analysis is needed to rule out above causes. Possibility of malignancy is very less, infective etiology seems mostly. So consult pulmonologist and discuss all these. First diagnose yourself and then start appropriate treatment.
