How Serious Is BP Of 250/78?

why would they let my mom leave the doctors office with her blood pressure up to 250/78 I think it was to high she said they couldn t read it went off the chart, they gave her a pill and made her wait for hour and still it was up and then sent her home she was driving herself and told her to take another one. I didn t know if this could of hurt her sounds high to me. Thank you

Hi. Probably your mother is asymptomatic and her bp is increased from very long time. Hypertensive urgency is the likely diagnosis. In this bp should be lowered slowly. If we lower bp instanteously then there can be stroke also. Your mother should contact doctor after 1 day of checking. So that bp can be lowered slowly. Take care.
