How Serious Is If A Heart Working At 40%?
My grandmother is 69 years old and just had emergency surgury to have her appendix removed while in Texas on a 3 month fishing trip with my grandfather. After the surgury, they were having difficulties bringing her oxygen level back up which later showed to be due to mild emphysema, but they also did an echocardiogram. The results of the echocardiogram showed that she had a weak heart muscle and she was also told that her heart is only working at 40%. What does this most likely mean and how serious is it? It's difficult for me to gather much information from them when they are so far away and now not sure when they will be back.

Hi... She is having a medical condition known as cardiac failure.. For a normal persn this has to be over 50% and any thing below this is considered as sign of cardiac failure.. They would need strict fluid restriction as suggested by doctors along with regular medications.. Only when these instructions are not adhered to, complicatons can occur
