How Should Contraceptive Pills Be Taken?

I started using the pill this month and am on week three. I have left the country and left the end of this pack (4 days worth at home) . If I m not having sexual intercourse for the next two weeks is it okay for me to finish the pack mid 3rd week and after 7 days break start my second pack?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Since you have broken the schedule in between, you need to start all over again from the next cycle as per the prescribed schedule. However, until you start the pills on a regular basis again, you can abstain from sexual intercourse. You can also use alternate contraceptives like condoms and spermicidal agents, if you wish to have intercourse. Also, continue to use such alternate contraceptives for 2 more weeks after you start the pills from the next cycle.
