How Should Diabetes Care Be Instituted?

My boyfriend has diabetes and he is not taking care of himself at all. My dad also has it and he didn t take care of himself to the point that his kidneys started to fail. How do I get my boyfriend to take care of himself? He constantly drinks dr. pepper and no water at all. He skips meals constantly and if he does eat, he goes to McDonalds to eat a double cheeseburger. What do I do?

Hi,
Thanks for asking.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows.
1. Get his into counseling. He requires professional help.
2. Show him the importance of having diabetes in control. Make him meet others who have lost a limb or a kidney and similarly show him, how many have survived it for life time.
3. Support him well and make sure he has his medications and his diet. Make sure it wont be long, otherwise organs could get damaged irreversibly.
Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
