How Should Severe And Painful Bruising And Swelling In The Upper Thigh After An Injury Be Treated?

I had an accident 9 days ago and bruised my outer thigh pretty badly. It is bruised and swollen but the past two days it has became more painful and continues to swell. I was walking without too much trouble but today I can not walk with out searing pain. Is this normal after 9 days.
