How Soon Can I Get Pregnant After Iud Removal?

I had my IUD (Mirena) removed July 15th, 2011 after having it in for 5 years and regular monthly periods on the 20th. I got a period on the 17th, about 3 days earlier than my normal period but still a period. I think I ovulated around August 4,5,6, and 7 and since my husband and I are TTC we have been having intercourse at least every second day. I was supposed to get a period on August 20th but it is now August 26th and still no sign that I am going to get a period this month. I have done 5-6 home pregnancy tests and 3 in my doctors office and all came back negative. I have been feeling nautious at times, very tired (even my husband said I was sleeping more), and I hav noticed my hair has changed- it is very soft and growing a lot the last month. I have been taking prenatal vitamins though too. Can t get into my doctor for a one on one for another month and just really want to kow if I could be pregnant so soon after an IUD removal.

Hi, Welcome to HCM forum.

Usually after removal of IUD, the fertility returns immediately, however Mirena being a hormone containing IUD, it takes around three months. I feel you should give that much time before you expect any results.

Moreover, understand that whenever you want to do urine pregnancy test and/or ultrasonography for detection of pregnancy, wait for at least 8-10 days after the periods are missed. Before that these tests are not reliable.

For any further discussion I am available on direct questions/premium questions if addressed to me specifically.
