Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I got a girl child in 35 weeks with a weight of 1.9 kg. She is now on phototherapy. Also since she is born early so doctors have advised us to givendexolac special care and parellally feed on breast milk. Pls advise do we have to worry for jaundice and how many days will it take to recover.
Hello, Thanks for the query. If you are talking about exposing the baby to ultra violet rays in an incubator. This helps in reducing the bilirubin and excreting it rapidly. This may have to be done for several days. While doing this exposure eyes need to be covered. Following phototherapyjaundice does go away. Jaundice occurs in new born because a lot of red blood cells are destroyed after birth as their number is much higher the baby when it is in the womb. There is no reason to worry. As regards the feeding please follow the doctors guidelines. Thanks
