How Soon Should Hydroceles In A Child Be Operated?
Hello. My son is 3.4 yrs and diagnosed with Hydroceles. I know surgery is best option but can it wait for month? what symptoms to watch for emergency surgery? can he maintain his regular activity (for age of 3 is mainly jumping) of cycling and swimming?? does he need special scrotum support or regular nappies or we keep him not tied up, i.e unsupported??
The very first thing to do is to relax, that will help make the right decisions.
If his doctor advised running surgery in a month, then, this means that he can wait for another month to get the surgery done. So, his situation is not urgent.
However, you should be watchful and observe any symptoms he might experience.
He can play as usual, but should be more protective and help prevent pelvic trauma. In all cases, you can discuss with his caring pediatrician for more specific help.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
