OBGYN 's  Response
Dear Friend,

I believe she is less than 9 weeks pregnant. Termination of pregnancy under 9 weeks by medicines is safe and successful.

Mifepristone and Misoprostol are the two medicines used for termination of early pregnancy. However, these medicines are not 'over the counter' medicines and have to be taken only with the Obstetrician's prescription lest violating MTP act, 1971. So please report to an Ob-Gyn specialist.

It is advisable to report to the Obstetrician 7 days after consuming the pills for confirming the completion of abortion and for ruling out any complication (which is very rare). Completion of abortion can be confirmed by ultrasonography. Urine pregnancy tests is always misleading since it takes some time for it to become negative.

They have good success rate. If at all these medicines fail to terminate the pregnancy, it has to be completed by surgical (suction) evacuation of the uterus.

Once these medicines are consumed, the decision of termination of pregnancy should not be changed since they may cause abnormalities in the baby.

I hope this gives you precise guidelines.
