How To Avoid Cramps During Mensuration?

The start of my last couple of periods have started out with black thick clotted blood and smaller blood clots for about 3-4 days. I am also currently starting a period 1 week after my previous one. And with this one I having extremly painfull cramping. At 20 years old this is worrying me.
