How To Balance Emotional State And Depression In An Elderly Person?

I am divorced 25 yrs. 82yrs. old.I have a very difficult time dealing with my ex-husband and his girlfriend who was the one that he cheated with when we were married.I have 5 children/12 grandchildren. I have a very hard time at family functions because they are there. How can I finally let go? I can t seem to do it. My past is preventing me going to the present and the future. I read your paper on Learning to let go of past hurts (John Grohol). It helped but I have another Grandchild wedding coming up. PLEASE help me. J

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the combination of past unforgettable experiences of life with depression are of major concern in your case. My humble advise is to get a psychiatric consultation and get prescription of anti depressant as selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor like Fluoxetine or others to handle the issue sound way.

Besides the pharmacotherapy, following measures will help you great way:
- Deep breathing exercises
- Meditations
- YOGA
- Walking in fresh air
- Involvement of likelihood activities
- Getting more involved with grandchildren
- Lifestyle modifications
- Joining groups with similar personnels
- Avoid smoking or alcohol if consuming

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
